Autumn news from the farm

by Sam Fairs, October 26, 2015

We’ve had some great growing weather this autumn, warm wet days, and, this week lots of sunshine in Suffolk. The rapeseed we drilled at the end of summer is starting to grow and the fields are turning green again.

We’ve finished drilling our winter wheat and are now busy preparing the farm for winter and the first frosts.  As always pests are a concern so we are checking for slugs where we can, fixing the rabbit fencing, and trying to control the pigeons, though that’s a never-ending task!

On top of that there’s lots of maintenance, hedge cutting, ditch digging and machinery repairs.

There’s always plenty to do before the clocks go back, the days are shorter and the winter takes its grip.
