French Toast

For a generous helping of protein at breakfast time, there's nothing better than a serving of French Toast (or Eggy Bread as many of you know it). Indulgent, filling and easy to make, it's a big hit with the whole family here at Hillfarm.

Serves Serves 4-8


  • 8 slices white bread
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 Tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 Tsp ground nutmeg
  • 2 Tbsp sugar
  • 4 Tbsp hillfarm rapeseed oil
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/2 Tsp vanilla essence
  • 1/2 cup maple syrup or fresh cherries and cherry/strawberry jam


  1. Heat the oil in a frying pan or skillet over a medium heat.
  2. Mix the sugar, spices, vanilla extract and eggs together and pour into a shallow dish.
  3. Dip the bread into the egg mixture and fry, slice by slice, until golden brown.
  4. If you’re serving with cherry sauce, gently warm the jam and stir in some halved, stoned cherries.
  5. Serve the warm toast drizzled with maple syrup or warm cherry sauce.
