Question-time with Hillfarm
You've got Questions? We've got Answers
At Hillfarm, we get so many questions and queries about our delicious oil, and how we make it. So, we decided to sit down with Hillfarm's very own Sam and Clare to find out the answers to all of your burning questions. From behind the scenes intel, to exactly how you can use our award-winning rapeseed oil, the Hillfarm family tells all.
Read on to hear all the answers to what you want to know.
Is Hillfarm a Family-run Business?
"Yes, very much so! It is us, the Fairs family; 21 years ago and we're still family-run. We're doing field to fork meaning everything is processed here on the farm. It's completely and utterly traceable".
As Sam and Clare say, Hillfarm is totally family-run, dating back to the 2004 Suffolk Show where every bottle was lovingly hand-filled and sealed by the pair. Since then, their children Lottie and Harry have also joined the family business, helping their delicious oil span multiple generations. Read about Hillfarm's family history here.
Why Do I Need a Bottle of Hillfarm in my Kitchen?
"You need it for its versatility, really. It makes the very best roast potatoes, and is a brilliant alternative in baking. If you mix butter and cold-pressed rapeseed oil, such as when frying onions and garlic, making scrambled eggs, or a base for a casserole, if you mix them together and melt them, the butter doesn't burn. It's also much easier to clean your pans after!"
We couldn't agree more. Our rapeseed oil has SO many uses, and aside from being versatile, it also has a fantastic flavour. Our classic rapeseed oil has a beautifully delicate taste that compliments a wide range of flavour profiles, whilst our range of infused oils give your palate some pizzazz for all different occasions. From fiery smoked chilli to lush black truffle, there's something for everyone. Learn more about when to use each oil here.
Is Rapeseed Oil used in Cars?
"All flammable oils could be used in a diesel engine. The fact that people use mineral oil in a form of diesel is because it's cheap. So, you could use any oil you want, but it would be more expensive."
There are so many myths around seed oils, and you may have heard that rapeseed oil is ultra-processed, bad for you, or used in cars. Well think again! Hillfarm rapeseed oil is extra-virgin, cold-pressed, and non-blended making it a healthy, flavour-packed choice for your kitchen.
In fact, our oil is naturally high in vitamin E and rich in omegas 3, 6, and 9, which are essential fatty acids beneficial for heart health. It also contains plant sterols thought to help lower cholesterol and has less than half the saturated fat of olive oil, making it a heart-healthy option. If want to bust more oil-based myths, read our blog post about the oily truth here.
